This family home design project was a result of both careful planning and happy coincidence. Michael Gwynn, an associate architect at Dyer Grimes Architecture, said the client owned the building on the first floor since 2008 and after three years purchased the underground flat and converted it into a two-storey apartment. The Dyer Grimes team had already created conversion plans when the flat above the first floor suddenly made a sale. Customers could purchase it and turn the project into a magnificent three story home. However, to set up all the necessary steelworks, we had to lower the ceiling on the first floor. The team reproduced the surroundings of the ceiling by Corning but could not continue through the window. Instead, I added a panel wall between the windows and intentionally contrasted with the details of the period.
