Ten years ago, I stood on the the front doorstep of my new domestic, anticipating the delivery lorry to reach. An older couple walked past my house after which doubled again to appearance up at it.

I asked if I could assist them and the man defined that he was getting to know his family history. His first rate-grandfather had bought and lived in my house whilst it was newly built, returned within the Victorian length. Through conversation, I learnt the exact date become 1897.

What must you do though, if you need to understand the exact age of your house and don’t have a friendly novice historian handy!

How HM Land Registry can help
Some humans get in touch with us to invite “How old is my residence?”, regularly due to the fact they need this information to take out building coverage.

We preserve records of land ownership, not what’s built at the land. If your own home turned into sold through the developer who built it even though, you may discover its approximate age using the date of the primary switch or rent via the developer, as this date is regularly stated within the sign up.
