The Spiral Pump: Pumping Water Without Electricity

The spiral pump (additionally called water wheel pump) is a hydraulic device that pumps water without energy. With the worldwide efforts to lessen carbon emissions, the multiplied cognizance on renewable energy is making the spiral pump a possible choice for pumping water, in particular in rural regions and developing countries. Simple installation and coffee maintenance charges make the spiral pump a good, environmentally-pleasant alternative.

What Is a Spiral Pump and How Does It Work?

A spiral pump is produced from a pipe wrapped round a horizontal axle, producing a spiral tube that is mounted to a water wheel. The water wheel is in flowing water, so that the water inside the river affords the electricity necessary for the rotation of the wheel. Hence, the spiral tube also rotates. When the inlet surface of the tube (the tube’s outside extremity) passes into the river, water enters into the tube. This water extent actions towards the opening of the tube (the internal extremity), at the center of the wheel, in which a instantly tube is connected to the quit-user.

Several water columns are generated inside the spiral tube, separated from every other by columns of compressed air trapped between the water columns. These columns of compressed air push in opposition to the water columns, in order that at the outlet (the center of the wheel) the water achieves energy and velocity. In this way, it could be pumped at a better elevation or at a positive distance from the river.
