Edge banding is used to cowl the uncovered aspects of substances inclusive of plywood, particle board or MDF, growing durability and giving the appearance of a solid or more precious fabric. Common substitutes for edgebanding consist of face frames or molding. Edge banding may be made of various materials which includes PVC, ABS, acrylic, melamine, wood or wooden veneer.

Traditional facet banding became a manual technique requiring ordinary carpentry gear and substances. In modern programs, especially for excessive-extent, repetitive manufacturing steps which include cabinet doorways, aspect banding is implemented to the substrate by an automated process the usage of a hot-melt adhesive. Hot soften adhesives can also consist of numerous uncooked substances which include EVA, PUR, PA, APOA, and PO. A substrate primer will also be used as a bonding agent among the adhesive and the substrate. Thicker side bandings typically require a mild concavity to offer a good glue line. The thickness can range from .018″ to 5mm or even greater. The device that applies the edge banding is known as edgebander. An edgebander bonds the brink banding to the substrate, trims the leading and trailing edges, trims top and backside flush with the substrate, scraps any surplus, and buffs the finished area.
