4-WAY / HAZARD BLINK PROBLEM ON MOTORCYCLES WITH LED TURN SIGNALS

It is at the flip signal indicator lamp wherein each the left and proper flip signal circuits are added collectively. Left turn circuit on one facet of the indicator lamp “filament” and proper turn circuit on the other facet. With the incandescent flip sign bulbs set up, the system behaves as designed wherein voltage on both the left or right turn sign circuits illuminates the flip sign indicator lamp. This is done without a doubt with the aid of allowing the opposite facet flip sign circuit from the only activated, to function as a ground direction for the indicator lamp. The small amount of modern that passes through the indicator lamp inside the gauge cluster isn’t sufficient to light up the power-hungry incandescent bulbs, and they honestly function as a floor path without lighting fixtures up at all. When doing away with those incandescent bulbs and installing LEDs, you have got eliminated this ground route – which commonly leaves the flip sign indicator lamp inoperative – AND you have delivered voltage to the alternative facet turn sign circuit that’s sufficient to illuminate the superb green LEDs.

OK, SO HOW DO I FIX THE 4-WAY BLINK PROBLEM?
The natural strategy to the four-Way Blink Problem (not the simple one, but the ideal solution) is to diode isolate the 2 turn sign circuits main to the gauge cluster, and offer a dedicated floor for the indicator lamp.

This is performed through finding those turn sign circuit wires main into the gauge cluster (normally the same cord colours as found at the blinker lamps themselves). Once you nicely become aware of them within the harness leading to the gauge cluster, you chop them and installation a Diode (1N4001) in every circuit (with the gray band closer to the gauge cluster) on the 2 wires feeding energy from the turn sign circuit. You will then combine the outputs of the diodes into one of the wires main into the gauge cluster, and floor the other wire going into the gauge cluster.
The diodes will keep electricity from being capable of cross over from one turn signal circuit to the opposite, but it’ll permit the 2 circuits to be combined to power the indicator lamp properly. The following crude caricature illustrates the concept.

DUDE, YOU LOST ME!
If putting in the diodes seems too concerned for you, don’t melancholy, there is every other answer. The only way to restoration this hassle is to add a few resistive load for your blinker system to damp out those crossover voltages and repair the floor direction for the indicator lamp. One pair of our Stage I Load Equalizers can also enough to clear up this hassle on some cutting-edge sportbikes, however most bikes do require multiple pair, or larger Load Equalizers altogether. Older motorcycles require as a lot as 25 Watts to be dissipated thru a resistor to do away with this problem!

I’m afraid it’ll take a touch experimentation to get the proper quantity of load. But, if installing one pair of the OEM blinkers lower back at the motorbike removes the 4-way blink problem, then you may be sure that an equally sized Load Equalizer will do the equal (healthy the wattage of the original incandescent bulb, to that of our Load Equalizer).
