Sofa cover cutting & stitching

2.Buy the slipcover cloth. You should purchase it at a material shop or on line.
Consider a material in a solid coloration. Matching patterns or stripes across large panels may be complicated, so unless you are equipped to put in this greater attempt, search for a cowl cloth it truly is a single tone.Opt for a fabric with a whole lot of drape – this may be lots simpler to work with.

3.Wash and dry the slipcover material. This softens the material and also debts for any shrinkage which could arise. Don’t skip this crucial step: the splendor of a slipcover is that it is able to be without problems removed and washed, however you need to make certain it may not cut back after you have made it.
Be sure to follow care commands for the particular fabric you’re running with.

4.Iron the cloth earlier than trying to begin work at the slipcover. Wrinkles could reason puckering within the finished product, so this guarantees a easy and accurate fit.

5.Drape the couch with reasonably-priced muslin or butcher paper and tuck in loosely. This mock cowl must agree to the sofa’s general shape. Since you are developing the sample at this factor, you can decide whether or not you need a close-becoming slipcover, or one that drapes greater loosely.
Note that it is ok in case you want to apply two or 3 big, separate portions. In that case, you could need to secure sections to the couch with safety pins.
The arm fronts do not want to be included at this level; see Step three for more information.
If you are feeling confident, you could bypass the mock-up and drape the sofa with the material you’re going to use, incorrect-side up (that is, the colour or sample ought to be facing down). In this case, you could hint the pattern onto the cloth itself with chalk.

6.Mark the pattern sections with chalk. Use chalk to become aware of where to cut out the pattern (except the arm fronts, which you will do in Step three). You need to have a few exceptional sections:
the outside again of the sofa
the seating place (together with the backrest and front section that drops to the ground)
the perimeters of the slipcover, which begin on the outside and arise and over the interior of the armrests.

7.Measure the arm fronts. These are the two vertical sections on either aspect of the front of the couch. It’s simplest to create the pattern for them separately. Note that you need most effective make one sample, which you may use to create each pieces.[5]
Cut out one square piece of paper or muslin, more or less the dimensions of the arm the front.
Use pins to keep it to one of the arm fronts.
Trace with chalk alongside the define of the arm front.
You’ll use this piece for both armrests.

8.Cut out the sections for the couch slipcover. Place massive sections of the slipcover cloth on a flat floor, then cover with each of the sample sections. Mark the scale at the material with the chalk and cut out every segment, allowing approximately 1 inch (2.Five cm) seam allowance for hemming.
Seam allowance is a chunk of extra fabric you leave so you can stitch the pieces of material collectively.
If your arm fronts are asymmetrical, make sure to flip the sample over earlier than tracing the second.

9.Pin the sections of the slipcover collectively. Lay the pieces of the fabric on the sofa, wrong-facet out (i.E., pattern or coloured aspect facing in to couch). Use directly pins to gather the sections of the duvet, taking care to join the pins simply at the inner of the chalk traces. This will create the overall shape for the slipcover.

10.Sew the arm fronts to the armrest sections. Remove those sections from the couch (you’ll want to unpin them from the alternative sections, however don’t contact the pins connecting the arm fronts). Use a sewing device to sew the sections collectively, the usage of the chalk line because the “avenue” for the sewing.
Remember to area the fabric into the sewing system wrong-aspect up, in order that your seams grow to be clean at the proper facet.
Remove the pins once you have sewn the portions together.

11.Sew the frame of the slipcover. Remove the alternative portions (the returned and seating place) from the sofa, taking care not to lose the pins. Use a sewing system to enroll in these two portions collectively.
Remove the pins when you’re achieved.

12.Return the frame and aspects to the couch and re-join. Make sure the quilt suits snugly and falls evenly. Add pins to sign up for the edges and body all over again.

13.Ew the aspect sections to the body. Use the pins and chalk strains to manual you.
Remove the pins from the seams as you go.

14.Check the slipcover’s suit. Place the duvet again at the sofa, wrong-aspect out. Make certain the seams are directly and the quilt fits smoothly throughout the surfaces.
If there are any spots that need solving, now is the time. Remove problem seams with a seam ripper and remodel them in order that they may be directly.

15.Trace a hemline along the lowest of the slipcover. Remove the slipcover from the sofa and unfold it out on a huge work surface. Use chalk to trace a hemline alongside the bottom, approximately 1/2-1 inch (1.25-2.5 cm) from the brink. Use a tape measure to make sure your line is straight.

16.Pin the hem. Fold alongside the hemline (incorrect side to wrong facet) and at ease the material with pins.

17.Hem the ends for a completed look. Use the stitching system to make the hem. Pause now and again to make sure the stitches are even and retaining nicely.

18. Try the slipcover on for length. Turn the slipcover so the right aspect is going through out and vicinity it on the couch, carefully tucking the quilt into location.
