I first evaluate my design goals and decide what I want to achieve in that space. Sometimes, I am inspired by something I have seen and want to immerse myself in the emotions inspired by inspiration. It may be photographs, art work, fibers, places, or just color itself. Then I will repeat the color swatches and narrow down the choices until I arrive at the best few. The bright, cool, pale color retreats and makes the room look bigger. Darker, deeper, warmer color spreads and looks less. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Many spaces are called for dark rich colors.
