Belonging to a film director, this villa is designed like an ancestral domestic through interior clothier Ganesh Nair of Whitespace who cautiously created a tranquil sanctuary that has a nostalgic quality to it. This 6,000-square-ft villa is placed in a small city near Palghat in Kerala, on a large plot alongside the banks of a river. The consumer is a popular Malayalam film director—a household name in Kerala. He and his own family needed to stay in a space that was cosy and acquainted. “All via the briefing, the only phrase that stood out and consequently defined the design fashion turned into ‘tharavad,’ that’s a normal ancestral home of Kerala. The client’s own family wanted to feel like they had moved right into a ‘tharavad,’ characterized by an indoor courtyard and the heavy use of wooden, terracotta, greenery and bricks. However, we consciously avoided overdoing the ethnic factors and interspersed the appearance with some current portions to interrupt the monotony,” states Nair.

Quarantine time would pass like a breeze inside this domestic talented with mind-blowing perspectives and sounds of the ocean. The interiors of this Kerala residence, conceptualised by using Design Consortium, are largely conventional with present day impacts. “The residence is a direct architectural response to the couple’s lifestyle and sensibilities. The owners desired the interiors designed like a traditional Kerala home. So we went with wide-open areas accentuated with plenty of natural mild and ocean breeze seeping in through all directions. The architecture with wood rafters and a sloping, Mangalore-tiled roof could be very neighborhood,” explains Nilanjan Bhowal, founder and main architect of Design Consortium. Given a completely blank canvas to work with, Bhowal has boldly complemented the house’s duration features with bespoke furnishings, sculptural lights, textured fabrics and bursts of color, in addition to the customers’ playful artwork collection of paintings, pix and sculptures. But most importantly the house reflects concord and quietness through a deep connection with nature.
