A Home Tour to a cool home that is close to nature

Here at Design*Sponge, we’ve covered a wide spectrum of topics, from DIY how-to’s, to artist profiles and studios, to recipes, to pop culture topics and essays that run the gamut in difficulty count. But over time, our fundamental awareness has always been domestic tours. They’re our bread and butter. They’re our window to the arena, and after publishing, analyzing and modifying thousands of them, we nevertheless can’t get sufficient of them.

Year after year, readers entrust us with showcasing their houses — an intimate take a look at their lifestyles — and it’s something we don’t take gently. We honor this accept as true with via handling the house excursions of others the manner we’d need a person to tell the stories of our own houses, and we paintings to get the information just right — “What private pronouns would you decide on we use?” and “Are you relaxed which include the names of your kids?” and “Are there methods we may want to higher and greater respectfully describe those cultural circle of relatives heirlooms?” — due to the fact the ones information all paintings collectively to inform the story of you. After all is said and done, the more communique isn’t approximately design, it’s about life at domestic.

Our first actual domestic tour published in 2007 — a small, one-image peek in the Portland domestic of artist Amy Ruppel — and it became written by using Grace. She tells me, “I didn’t have any idea that humans would want to look greater content like this (at the time I in particular wrote about new product designs) and so I known as it a ‘sneak peek’ because it felt like we in brief stepped interior Amy’s entryway, snapped a picture, after which ran out!”
