Of course, not only the trees that made our house dark. Deep eaves, too few windows, fake beams, low ceilings, valley settings surrounded by forested hills all contributed to the lack of light at home. Until we owned the house and incinerated it, we tried to maximize the natural light by increasing it. Our family room was exposed to a wonderful southern exposure, but the only light was from sliding doors. Even after we added a big Solatube, the room was bright but I felt sick. We added two double hang windows on each side of the door and added a total of four doors. We planned to set up two more square windows on both sides of the fireplace as shown in the first picture.
