House built for 14 lakhs

Later within the day, at a gathering of nearly 35,000 beneficiary family members of the programme from Thiruvananthapuram district, the Chief Minister officially announced the of completion of 2,14,262 houses beneath the LIFE Mission, and said: “When we got here to energy, the maximum heard complaint in Kerala turned into from folks that did not have a house to stay in. Despite having numerous housing schemes under diverse departments and businesses, a residence remained the dream of a big variety of marginalised and destitute humans. We needed to discover a answer. Our initial estimate confirmed there have been five lakh homeless human beings nonetheless within the State. We determined to bring all of the housing schemes under one employer and enforce them through a fast-music procedure.”

Such gatherings of beneficiary families had been organised in all 14 districts of Kerala on February 29. The LDF Government can legitimately be proud of its achievement, and the political import, with the neighborhood body elections across the corner, changed into now not misplaced on absolutely everyone. The opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) boycotted the occasion and claimed that it became originally a programme launched via the UDF while it become in electricity and that the government figures of two lakh plus completed houses was “suspect”. The BJP, too, criticised the programme, and its leaders desired the authorities to reveal the Central government’s contribution to the houses that had been built.

The Chief Minister described the competition’s reaction to all such issues that had a bearing at the improvement of the State as “cruelty to the State and its destiny”. He said: “It isn’t always when exactly you began building the homes, but the fact that eventually so many humans are going to live in them that makes every body happy. As a part of their political choice, the opposition has boycotted the feature. But what precisely are they boycotting? This programme have become such a large fulfillment most effective because the entire State got here together to support it. If we can not be part of fingers in such programmes, then what’s the meaning of calling ourselves social workers?”

If one is going through the glad, proud reactions of the beneficiaries on the gatherings organised in the districts, the political squabbles have been the only jarring observe that seemed to mar LIFE Mission’s achievements.

In all such events that day, Kerala noticed completely satisfied faces of human beings brought from a life of distress, insecurity, indignity and uncertainty by way of a focussed rapid-track government programme whose goals went beyond mere transport of completed homes. Indeed, it was supposed to provide safe and first rate housing to all eligible families with out land or housing within the State. But not like other such initiatives, it additionally aimed toward financial empowerment of the beneficiaries and provision of manner of a livelihood for them.

The LIFE Mission has already released its 1/3 stage initiative, building flat complexes in 28 centres in 64 neighborhood our bodies inside the State that might advantage 1.6 lakh landless humans. These housing complexes might have all present day centers and might offer livelihood schooling and social protection services to the beneficiaries. One such complicated, of 217 apartments reaping benefits 167 human beings, has been opened at Adimali in Idukki district.

Stage one of the LIFE Mission project had aimed toward bringing to reality the dream of a domestic for the beneficiaries of presidency programmes released between 2001 and 2016 (which blanketed 10 years of UDF rule) whose homes couldn’t be finished with the financial help they had received. Of the fifty four,173 homes on this category, fifty two,050 houses (ninety six.08 in line with cent) had up to now been finished, with the LDF government spending Rs.670 crore, the Minister said.

Stage two was intended for the development of houses for folks that had land but now not the assets to build a residence. Under this, price range to be had under the PMAY scheme of the Central authorities, in addition to the housing schemes underneath the SC-ST and Fisheries departments had been protected, even though the Central assistance accounted for handiest a small proportion of the Rs.4 lakh that the Kerala Government has promised to every beneficiary underneath the LIFE Mission programme.
