The earliest houses that humans inhabited had been likely obviously happening features along with caves.
Throughout records, primitive peoples have made use of caves. The earliest human fossils located in caves come from a series of caves near Krugersdorp and Mokopane in South Africa. The cave web sites of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, Kromdraai B, Drimolen, Malapa, Cooper’s D, Gladysvale, Gondolin and Makapansgat have yielded more than a few early human species dating again to between 3 and 1,000,000 years ago, including Australopithecus africanus, 7Australopithecus sediba and Paranthropus robustus. However, it is not usually notion that those early human beings had been residing inside the caves, but that they have been brought into the caves by way of carnivores that had killed them.[citation needed]
The first early hominid ever discovered in Africa, the Taung Child in 1924, became also thought for many years to come from a cave, in which it have been deposited after being preyed upon via an eagle. However, that is now debated. Caves do shape inside the dolomite of the Ghaap Plateau, consisting of the Early, Middle and Later Stone Age web page of Wonderwerk Cave; however, the caves that shape alongside the escarpment’s edge, like that hypothesised for the Taung Child, are formed inside a secondary limestone deposit called tufa. There is numerous proof for different early human species inhabiting caves from at the least 1,000,000 years in the past in special components of the sector, together with Homo erectus in China at Zhoukoudian, Homo rhodesiensis in South Africa on the Cave of Hearths (Makapansgat), Homo neandertalensis and Homo heidelbergensis in Europe at Archaeological Site of Atapuerca, Homo floresiensis in Indonesia, and the Denisovans in southern Siberia.

In southern Africa, early contemporary human beings frequently used sea caves as safe haven starting about a hundred and eighty,000 years ago once they discovered to make the most the sea for the first time. The oldest regarded website online is PP13B at Pinnacle Point. This might also have allowed rapid enlargement of people out of Africa and colonization of regions of the world such as Australia through 60–50,000 years in the past. Throughout southern Africa, Australia, and Europe, early cutting-edge human beings used caves and rock shelters as web sites for rock art, which include the ones at Giants Castle. Caves consisting of the yaodong in China had been used for safe haven; different caves had been used for burials (such as rock-reduce tombs), or as non secular web sites (together with Buddhist caves). Among the acknowledged sacred caves are China’s Cave of a Thousand Buddhas and the sacred caves of Crete.

As technology advanced, human beings and other hominids started constructing their personal dwellings. Buildings which include huts and longhouses were used for residing since the overdue Neolithic.
